Elvira is played by Cassandra Peterson who was born September 17, 1951 in Manhatten, Kansas and is an American actress, writer and singer. She is best known for her portrayal of the horror hostess character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. After high school, she became a showgirl in Frederic Apcar's pioneering "Vive Les Girls!" at The Dunes; here, she met Elvis Presley, whom she briefly dated. She had a small role as a showgirl in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever (1971).
