"Bani Thani" 80cm x 40cm My own take on an old Indian painting with some Rajasthani & Mughal latticework. Bani Thani was a singer and poet in Kishangarh in the time of king Sawant Singh (1748–1764). Her portrait was painted by Nihal Chand and was featured in an Indian stamp issued on 5 May 1973. She is also known by some as the Indian Mona Lisa 😊 .

Raja Sawant Singh was the king of Kishangarh (1748–1764).
He fell deeply in love with Vishnupriya (later known as Bani Thani)
a talented poet and singer in his court.
He himself was an accomplished poet and a devotee of lord Krishna and their bond has often been compared to the love of Radha-Krishna.
Their love became legendary, and inspired much of the evocative and romantic paintings for which Kishangarh is justly famous.
