Glassworkers working in the intense heat of the furnace of the Whitefriars Glassworks, Wealdstone, were in the habit of drinking beer to quench their thirst, but in recent years water has been substituted. This Christmas however, thanks to the generosity of the brewers (Charringtons), it is possible for the glassblowers to revert temporarily to the happy customs of the past and today they are quenching their thirst with ale from a variety of drinking vessels of their own making.
