☁ Facebook : www.facebook.com/Valeriane.Leblond.Art. ☂ Website : www.valeriane-leblond.eu ✒…
“If you meet a woman of whatever complexion who sails her life with strength and grace and assurance, talk to her! And what you will find is that there has been a suffering, that at some time she has left herself for hanging dead.” ― Sena Jeter Naslund, Ahab's Wife, or The Star-Gazer
Pleached Hornbeam trees - Pleaching is the weaving branches of multiple trees together for privacy, wind & sound block. Best trees for pleaching are Lindens, Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Beech, Apple, Pear, Hawthorn, & Carob. The American Hornbeam (Carpinus Caroliniana) is hardy and holds some of it's leaves during winter to provide a privacy screen year round. Because each tree is trained to have a single stem, there is space below a pleached hedge for other plantings (a hedge on stilts!)
This Coastal Hedge mix is a bundle of 50 plants, suitable for the seaside. 30% Hawthorn, 20% Blackthorn, 10% each of 5 plants selected from: Cotoneaster, Elaeagnus, Tamarisk, Sea Buckthorn, Dog Rose, or Wild Privet. These plants will handle strong maritime winds and salty air. They won't grow in pure sand dunes right on the shore, but they will thrive in the dry, poor soils that are found in coastal regions. Several of the plants in the mix will have thorns.
Feb 2016 - Hazel catkins caught in the wind. We have been planting lots of new hedging on site, including hazel, hawthorn, spindle, blackthorn and guelder rose. New native hedges will soon create shelter and delineation.
