Harlem businesswoman A'Lelia Walker was born on June 6, 1885. The only daughter of millionaire business leader Madam C. J. Walker, Lelia Walker was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She grew up in St. Louis and attended Knoxville College in Tennessee before entering the family business. She helped her mother found the Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company in Denver in 1906.
