The Olympic city... at dawn: Golden images of the Houses of Parliament and London's other great landmarks bathed in morning sun
Royal Albert Hall - was destined to have 30,000 seats. When Prince Albert succumbed of typhoid funds were diverted for his memorial. The concert hall with 7,000 seats is still impressive. It houses the BBC Proms, one of the greatest classical music festivals, in the Summer.
The Royal Albert Hall was built with profits from the Great Exhibition, + commemorated the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone in 1867, + opened it 4 yrs later on 29.3.1871. Designed by Captain Francis Fowke & Henry Darracott. The most famous event held is the Sir Henry Wood Promenade Concerts – or The Proms. Originally held in the Queen’s Hall, South Bank, until bombed in 1941 by the Germans. It transferred to the Royal Albert Hall + rose in popularity.
