Pot au Feu began appearing in England in the 17th century. The name derives from a dish named pot pourri that was popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. A recipe can be found in La Cuisinière bourgeoise written by Menon in 1746. Menon's true identity remains a mystery since the name was an alias but he did write several cookery books in the mid 18th century.
