Commonly regarded as the key figure of medieval Rus', Alexander rose to legendary status on account of his military victories over German invaders.
Philippe François Marie, count of Hauteclocque, commandant of the Allied 2nd Armored Division, landed in Normandy on August 1st 1944, then fought at the battle of the Falaise Pocket and then went on to liberate Paris. It was to him that Dietrich von Choltitz, the German military governor of Paris, surrendered on 25 August 1944. His Resistance alias was 'Leclerc'.
