Marian Anderson 1897 - 1993 SINGER In 1939, the DAR refused to let Anderson sing in DC's Constitution Hall because she was black. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt resigned from the DAR, and her husband's administration arranged an outdoor concert at the Lincoln Memorial for a crowd of 75,000 and millions of radio listeners. Anderson was the first African American to sing with the Metropolitan Opera, and in 1958 became a delegate to the United Nations.
Franconia Ridge Trail, New Hampshire One of the most memorable hikes I have ever hiked. Hiked Mt. Lafayette, Mt. Lincoln, and Mt. Haystack with my Uncle Greg and Aunt Jola some years ago, and since the passing of my Uncle Greg in 2007, this is often a memory I reflect upon... the beauty of that day. It was clear as can be much like this picture. We stopped at the hut for lemonade. Truly one of the best hikes I have ever been on, and I look forward to hiking it again one day.
