The Banality of Evil: Ted Cannon was on his Mormon Church mission to Germany during the April 20, 1939 parade celebrating Hitler's 50th Birthday, and he photographed a young officer of the Allgemeine-SS holding his son dressed in a traditional German sweater jacket festooned with militaria-like pins and patches. The father is obviously proud that his little boy has learned to give the “Heil Hitler” salute. One wonders just how many of the elated lemmings in the picture were dead six years…
