Alexander Bain (October 1811 – 2 January 1877) was a Scottish inventor and engineer who was first to invent and patent the electric clock. Bain installed the railway telegraph lines between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Louis de Broglie (Dieppe, 1892) made groundbreaking contributions to quantum theory. He postulated the wave nature of electrons and suggested that all matter has wave properties. This concept is known as the de Broglie hypothesis, an example of wave-particle duality, and forms a central part of the theory of quantum mechanics. The wave-like behaviour of particles discovered by him was used by Erwin Schrödinger in his formulation of wave mechanics.
