Chateau Laurier, Ottawa, Canada. Built by Charles Melville Hayes in 1909-1912. Named for Cdn. Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Chateau Laurier was scheduled to be opened April 26, 1912 but Charles Melville Hays booked passage to Canada for the grand opening aboard the Titanic & perished when the ship went down in the North Atlantic, April 15, 1912. Today Chateau Laurier is owned by the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts chain and is said to be haunted by the ghost of Charles Melville Hays.
