Palace Pompadour The exterior of Chateau de Menars, which is referred to as Palace Pompadour by its philanthropic owner, Edmond Baysari. The regal retreat was once owned by Madame de Pompadour, a prolific patroness of the arts and the chief mistress of France's King Louis XV, during the 18th century. It is the only 100% privately held royal chateau in France's Loire Valley.
