Nottingham is littered with caves, the city being built upon soft sandstone. These are in the rock just beneath Nottingham Castle. As far back as the middle ages, they were used as homes by the less well off, hence the nickname 'pauper holes'
The Wine Cellar, a giclee , personally enhanced and by the artist Janet Kruskamp showing the front window, door and outdoor table of The Wine Cellar. The table is set with wine, bread and fruit. Pots and planters of brightly colored flowers surround the table and doorway. The outside wall around the front window shows the age of the building in the patches of missing plaster.
