Cartier Tank Solo, maybe mine one day! The 1st Tank wristwatch was created in 1917 and was inspired by a simple idea: four lines, with two parallel shafts made from gold or platinum, a sapphire cabochon atop the winding crown and a leather strap. With its infinitely refined and timeless design, this revolutionary square watch took shape and forever changed the world of watchmaking. Yet the story of the Tank has only just begun.
Cartier Tank Solo Extra Large- Cartier Tank was created by Louis Cartier in 1917, and inspired by the new Renault tanks which Cartier saw in use on the Western Front, and the prototype watch was presented by Cartier to General John Pershing of the American Expeditionary Force. Its lines and proportions are similar to those of tanks found on First World War battlefields; it is both a square and a rectangle, and its straps are concealed under vertical sidepieces so as to be hidden from view.
This is my Cartier Tank Solo in the large size. I have been experimenting with NATO straps on formal watches. This is probably my favorite combo so far, I love the dichotomy between the Art Deco lines of the Tank and the sporty casual strap.
