Sorn Seavmey, the Cambodian taekwondo hero, won the gold medal after defeating the Filipino athlete, in the Asian Taekwondo Qualification Tournament for Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Manila, the Philippines, on April 16, 2016.It is another historical success for Cambodian sport toward the Olympic Games which Cambodian athletes had never been able to qualify for these international games before, underlined the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).
Standing 5'9" in height, Cambodian Taekwondo medal hopeful Sorn Seamy is in Rio representing Cambodia in the 2016 summer Olympic games. She lead the Cambodian Olympic Team as the flag bearer. At the young age of 19, she won Cambodia's first gold medal win at the 2014 Asian Games in 44 years in Incheon, S. Korea. She will compete on August 20 in Taekwondo Female +67kg division.
