7 Objects You Won't Believe Are Books

'Our Mathematical Universe: My Quest for the Ultimate Nature of Reality' Theoretical physicist Tegmark takes readers on an illuminating trip through cutting edge cosmology to one of the strangest ideas in a field overflowing with them: that our universe isn’t just described by math, it may actually be made out of it. Tegmark’s writing is lucid, enthusiastic, and outright entertaining, a thoroughly accessible discussion leavened with anecdotes and the pure joy of a scientist at work..

Graph Theory - An Introduction! In this video, I discuss some basic terminology and ideas for a graph: vertex set, edge set, cardinality, degree of a vertex, isomorphic graphs, adjacency lists, adjacency matrix, trees and circuits. There is a MISTAKE on the adjacency matrix; I put a 1 in the v5 row and v5 column, but it should be placed in the ...

NORMAL CURVE - Bing Images The normal distribution curve is the basis for probability theory. Probability theory builds on this distribution. If something is rare, occurring more than two standard deviations above or below the mean, we probably caused it to happen by our research manipulation. Therefore, we have found statistical significance, p < .05. Use graphic in PowerPoint as explanation of probability.

Solid Figures: Prisms and Pyramids Notepage

Solid Figures: Prisms and Pyramids Notepage Great resource for teaching solid figures! These pages outline key vocabulary terms needed for a discussion including face, base, and edge. Also, comparison charts of prisms and pyramids are included, as well as a Venn Diagram students can fill out about these two types of solid figures. Have students keep this in their math notebook or folder to refer to when needed.

For the activity, the teachers posted the pictures around the room. With music playing in the background, students moved from picture to picture, counting and recording the number of edges, faces, and vertices for each figure in their math journals. After students had completed the gallery walk they came back together to discuss their observations about the different shapes and look for connections and patterns.

I've got a foldable for that! Volume and surface area. If you make the edge lengths have fractional parts, you've got 6th grade common core math.

3D Shape Powerpoint

This powerpoint serves as an introduction or review of 3D shapes. Students will explore the concepts of faces, surfaces, edges, corners and points. Attributes of 3D shapes will be discussed, and then viewed through simple animation, which will help solidify understanding 3D characteristics. 3D shapes included are: sphere, cylinder, cone, cube, rectangular prism, and square pyramid. 2D visuals are also included for initial comparison.

Seeing Struggling Math Learners as ‘Sense Makers,’ Not ‘Mistake Makers’ | MindShift | KQED News

Michæl Paukner notes about this image: Galactic Alignment 2012, Pole Shift, Mayan Calendar, Dark Rift are the most discussed topics nowadays. The Galactic Alignment is the alignment of the December solstice sun with the Galactic equator. This galactic alignment occurs as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. It occurs only once every 26,000 years, and was what the ancient Maya were pointing to.
