In 1961, Bill Aossey was the first Muslim to join the US Peace Corps. While there, he coached the country’s Olympic wrestling team, and worked in water well and rural agricultural development. Afterwards, he traveled throughout Africa, across the Middle East, through Central Asia, to the Far East. While a graduate student, he accepted a Fulbright grant to conduct an agricultural study in South Vietnam. Then he taught in Saudi Arabia from 1967-1970.
