Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his youngest daughter Anastasia, circa 1915
Tsar Nicholas II was married to Alix of Hesse, later Alexandra Feodorovna since 1894. They had already had three daughters at the time and the new baby was expected to be a boy, who would be heir to Russia. However, the baby born in 1901 was Anastasia. It is said that the Tsar needed to walk and calm down before visiting the girl. Anastasia soon captivated the family and would be a cheerful and funny girl. Her father was the only one who made her stop her antics.
