Vivian Maier – mirror self portraits. Today, the name Vivian Maier is synonymous with American street photography. But her work didn't become famous until someone bid $400 on a box of negatives. And the starting labouriously scanning all her many, many, many negatives—and shared them with the world. What a hero!

Gisèle Freund. The only woman to work for Magnum, the cooperative photography agency founded in 1947 by Henri Cartier Bresson and others. Freund was born near Berlin, 1908. An accomplished photojournalist, she became known for her portraits of James Joyce, T.S.
