Guillaume Apollinaire (born Wilhelm Albert Włodzimierz Apolinary Kostrowicki; Rome, Italy 26 August 1880 – Paris, France 9 November 1918, aged 38) was a French poet, playwright, short story writer, novelist, and art critic born to a Polish mother Angelika Kostrowicka, a Polish noblewoman of Wąż coat of arms. He is considered one of the foremost poets of the early 20th century and one of the forefathers of surrealism.
