Jagannath Mandir, Puri, Odisha
Dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Vishnu, the temple is a key pilgrimage site for Hindus. It is part of the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit and attracts millions of devotees annually, especially during the famous Rath Yatra (chariot festival), which typically takes place in the summer months. The temple was established in the 12th century by King Anantavarman Chodaganga, though it is believed that the worship of Bhagwaan Jagannath has been in practice in the region for much longer. The temple has undergone several renovations over time, particularly after it was attacked by various invaders. The temple has a strict policy that prohibits non-Hindus from entering the inner sanctum, although they can visit the outer areas of the temple.
